Giving back to the field of architecture and design, an integral part of our identity, has been part of the work ethics since our inception, with a clear 'every five years, a new step' agenda.
In order to bring academics closer to the industry, we have been mentoring design studios in many city colleges since several years, sharing our knowledge and professional experience, trying to be influential and influenced. We also encourage internship programmes that are based on 'not what interns can do for us but what we can do for them'. We also actively encourage our architectural assistants to upgrade their skills by pursuing higher learning and mentor them during the period.
We successfully run a mail-order design catalogue initiative that has enabled many ordinary citizens in small towns and cities who put all their life savings into building a home or unqualified persons indulging in building activities, all of whom, having no access to the 'professional architect' to obtain well designed and visually appealing homes at almost no cost. Helping the less fortunate build their dream shelters with good light and ventilation, furniture placements, anthropometrically sized spaces and effective circulation and thereby enriching their lives is self-serving in a way for it is immensely gratifying.
We are actively involved in promoting and practising rain- water harvesting and waste water recycling and spreading awareness of the simple, cost effective and largely natural techniques to conserve water especially in urban areas. Our landscape projects always address this concern along with the aesthetics.
Lena also writes books, articles and essays on architecture and design for a design house and her works have been published. She also enjoys doing conservation workshops with children of a city school. She is on the panel of external examiners/jurers for universities and has made her job of mentoring young and aspiring students of architecture, her mission in life!
